Sooners Open Judi Garman Classic with Two Wins
The 11th-ranked University of Oklahoma softball team won a pair of games to open the 2010 Judi Garman Classic on Thursday afternoon. The Sooners (24-4) dropped Utah for the third time in a week as OU prevailed 3-0. OU then faced No. 7 Arizona State and won a game-winning RBI single from sophomore Katie Norris, 5-4.
Game 2: Oklahoma 5, Arizona State 4
After Oklahoma took an early 1-0 lead, the Sun Devils (24-4) answered back to take a 2-1 lead in the top of the sixth. The Sooners came right back, scoring three runs in the bottom half as senior Lindsey Vandever scored on Norris’ second home run of the season. Junior Dani Dobbs then singled to reach base and came around on a double down the left field line by freshman Brianna Turang.
The momentum was short-lived as ASU scored two in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 4-4. With two outs in the inning, junior Haley Nix single to right field and freshman Keilani Ricketts walked before Norris delivered her second hit of the game, an RBI single to score Nix and give OU the 5-4 win.
Keilani Ricketts moved to 13-4 on the year, allowing just one earned run on six hits. Ricketts walked three batters and struck out four of the 30 batters faced.
