Southern Miss Comes to Tulsa on 4-Game Winning Streak
The Golden Eagles enter the contest on a four-game winning streak with wins over East Carolina, Tulane, SMU and Houston. The Tulane and Houston games were on the road for USM. In C-USA play, Southern Miss also dropped a one-point decision at UAB and had a two-point loss against Memphis.
Southern Miss has an overall 14-8 record and a 4-4 C-USA record, while the Hurricane is 18-5 on the year and 7-2 in C-USA action.
USM is the C-USA leader for scoring defense, holding the opposition to just 60 points per game, while the Eagles score 66.2 points. Tulsa comes into the game scoring 73.5 points and has a 10.5 scoring margin, allowing the opponents just 63.0 points per game.
The Golden Eagles are led by junior Gary Flowers, who averages 14.5 points and 7.9 rebounds through the first 22 games. Maurice Bolden scores at a 10.0 clip for USM.
With one blocked shot, Tulsa’s seven-foot center Jerome Jordan will own sole possession of first place on the Conference USA all-time blocks chart. Jordan is coming off of two straight 20+ point scoring games against Marshall and UTEP. He averaged 15.0 points, 8.2 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game.
Tulsa’s guard tandem of senior Ben Uzoh and junior Justin Hurtt combine to score 29.4 points per game. Uzoh leads the Hurricane with a 15.4 scoring average and 4.2 assists, while also pulling down 4.7 rebounds. Hurtt scores at a14.0 clip.
This is the eighth meeting between the two schools. Tulsa leads the series 4-3 and has a 3-1 mark at home. The Hurricane won last year’s game in Hattiesburg by a score of 67-58.
