Speedy, Thoughtful David Annett is SportClips Student Athlete of the Month

DAVID ANNETT
The October /Sportclips Student Athlete of the Month is Metro Christian Academy’s David Annett.
Annett is Oklahoma’s top prep cross-country runner. He also runs varsity track in the spring. Annett has a 4.0 , is a budding artist, is clever and a brilliant manager.
Annett’s head cross-country coach Matthew Pile nominated him after learning of the Student Athlete of the Month program. Pile says, “He’s the full package for your description of the student athlete of the month.”
Coach Pile nominated Annett not just because of Annett’s spectacular running time and his 4.0 , but because Annett created and manages the concept of “Just a Second.” Pile adds, “Yeah, he’s the whole package, being involved in the community and taking running to another level in the sense of outreach.”

Annett’s Just a Second is a concept where Metro’s cross-country runners noted their times at the beginning of the season and gathered pledges to donate money for every second of improvement over the season. The entire school has become involved. 52 runners from varsity, JV and middle school have taken on the Just a Second challenge.
The funds raised are going toward repairing 35 non-working water wells in Ghana, Africa. It takes about $500 to fix each well. Annett is estimating they will finish with over $17,000 and be able to fix all of the wells.
Annett has been in the Calculus club and is a member of the National Honor Society as well as being involved with his church, traveling internationally on missions. He certainly is the whole package.
Annett asked the to add the following, if he on this award, “We here at Metro cross-country don’t run for ourselves. Everything we do here is concentrated on bringing God all the glory.”
