Startup Tulsa began in 2007 as an entrepreneurial economy-building endeavor created by the Tulsa Economic Development Commission with the purpose of rewarding and accelerating the growth of Tulsa entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurial and small business ventures play a key role in Tulsa’s economy, accounting for 82 percent of the local business community and generating $3.1 billion in Tulsa’s economy each year.

The Startup Cup, formerly known as the Entrepreneurial Spirit Award, is Startup Tulsa’s annual business model competition. It is open to all types of business ideas and teaches participants how to turn their ideas into viable business models, test their assumptions and modify their models according to their findings. Past winners have included businesses in service, technology, oil and gas, fitness and health industries.
