Talbert and Whitt Sweep Summit League Honors

ELMHURST, Ill. – Rachel Talbert and Jack Whitt were named the Summit League Track and Field Athletes of the Week on Tuesday after their performances at the Sooner May Open on Saturday.

Talbert finished second in the discus throw with a school-record mark of 55.07 meters. The distance shattered the old ORU record of 53.65 meters set by Talbert in 2008, and currently ranks seventh nationally. The Newton, Kan., native has placed in all seven discus events this season.

Whitt earned his third weekly award for the outdoor season and fifth total this year after claiming the pole vault event with a mark of 5.18 meters. The height shattered the Sooner Open record, marking the second meet record Whitt has set this season. Whitt currently ranks seventh nationally in the pole vault (5.41 meters).

The Golden Eagles compete at The Summit League Outdoor Championships in Toledo, Ohio, beginning on Thursday.
