The Bixby Metro Chamber of Commerce hosted the 11th Annual Taste of Bixby at the newly-renovated Charley Young Park in late May, where Bixby restaurants and companies set up booths to offer samples to attendees.

In past years, the event has taken place at the Spirit Bank Event Center, but mild summer weather and the newly-opened space offered a different venue.

Charley Young Park, located in downtown Bixby, held its grand opening on May 13 and already has its calendar filled with outdoor movie events, yoga, food truck nights, and more activities.

The historic gazebo, playground equipment, and the park’s gorilla statue have been moved to Lake Bixhoma, and the renovated park includes a new children’s playground, seating and awnings, an event stage, and a splash pad.

Due to the enthusiastic reception, Taste of Bixby is scheduled to appear at the park every year from now on, said Bixby Chamber of Commerce President Krystal Crockett.
Regarding the chamber’s decision to hold the event in the park, Crockett noted, “We knew [the park] would be renovated. We want to show that there can be multiple events here. This is the biggest crowd we’ve ever seen.”

Out of the 17 vendors, five vendors received recognition:
• Best Appetizer—Blue Smoke Barbeque;
• Best Entrée—LongHorn Steakhouse;
• Best Dessert—Michael V’s Restaurant & Bar;
•Best Beverage—Raising Cane’s Bixby; and
• Best of Taste of Bixby—Doc’s Country Mart.

The chamber saw an attendance increase over last year by about 200 people, said Crockett.

In addition to the many food options, Taste of Bixby also featured a bounce house for children, music and several raffle prizes.
