TAUW Announces Challenge


More than $650,000 in Community Challenge Grants has been pledged by a number of Tulsa’s leading foundations and corporations in this year’s Tulsa Area United Way Campaign. These grants will challenge individuals, small businesses and foundations in greater Tulsa to give for the first time or at an increased level to help reach TAUW’s 2010 goal of $24,067,551.

The Anne & Henry Zarrow and the J.E. and L.E. Mabee Foundations introduced a $250,000 Community Leadership Challenge with . With this challenge, the foundations will match dollar for dollar any new Leadership level givers of $500 or more per year.

QuikTrip has issued the QuikTrip $100,000 Small Business Challenge to match dollar for dollar all new small business (50 employees or less) campaigns.

An anonymous foundation has agreed to fund $187,500 towards a three year Step Up Program for new members of the Alexis de Tocqueville Society (donors of $10,000 and above). Additionally, another foundation will increase their gift by $50,000 if 20 existing Tocqueville Society members increase their gifts to the new level of Société du Président.

The H.A. & Mary K. Chapman Foundation $50,000 New Foundations Program will match funding from any Tulsa area foundation that did not make a contribution in 2008 and 2009.

The Hille Foundation’s $25,000 Women’s Leadership Challenge will match any new or increased Leadership Gifts ($500 or more) from women. TAUW’s newly formed Women’s Leadership Council is working to mentor women and introduce them to community philanthropy.

The $24-plus million goal for this year’s campaign was set after nearly 150 volunteers invested five months and 8,000 hours carefully analyzing the community’s most pressing needs. The annual campaign will run through Thursday, November 11.

In the last 86 years, the Tulsa Area United Way has invested more than $568 million in the Tulsa area community, delivering the three building blocks to a better life: education, financial stability and health/safety. The Tulsa Area United Way provides services to more than 726,000 individuals annually through its 61 partner agencies in Creek, Okmulgee, Osage, Rogers, Wagoner and Tulsa counties.
