TCC Names BAFD Chief Jeremy Moore Among the College’s 50 Notable Alumni
As part of a celebration of its 50 years, Tulsa Community College is recognizing 50 Notable Alumni, one per week, during this academic year.
This week’s Notable Alumni is Broken Arrow Fire Chief Jeremy Moore. He graduated from TCC with an associate degree in fire protection in 1997. A 23-year fire veteran, Chief Moore has led the BAFD since 2015.
He started his public safety career as an Emergency Medical Technician for Skiatook EMS. In 1996, he joined the Tulsa Fire Department as a firefighter, where he worked his way up the ranks becoming captain, then district chief. In this role, he managed daily operations of fire company personnel along with the Technical Rescue Team. Additionally, at Tulsa Fire he served as administrative chief working closely with department administration, the Mayor’s office, and other city leaders. He currently leads 173 firefighters in Broken Arrow.
“Tulsa Community College provided not only excellent course work and instruction but equally important was the network of existing firefighters participating in the class who could mentor and assist us aspiring firefighters,” he said. “In addition, the college provided a pathway to a career in fire service better than any other educational institution or technical school.”
With a bachelor’s degree in fire safety service management and a master’s in public administration, Moore has the distinction of being only one of four credentialed Chief Fire Officers in Oklahoma. A graduate of Leadership Tulsa Class 46 and a Paragon award nominee, he has served as board chair for the Crime Commission and has literally volunteered countless hours with a myriad of community organizations for almost three decades.
Moore is currently serving locally as president for the Green Country Fire Chief’s Association, and statewide he is the president for the Oklahoma Public Employers Labor Relations Association. He continues to mentor and assist aspiring firefighters and has served as an adjunct TCC faculty member.
Tulsa Junior College, now TCC, opened its doors in September 1970 as the first public higher education institution in Tulsa. TCC has helped shape the greater Tulsa area for nearly five decades. To date, the college has served nearly 450,000 students and educated generations of Tulsans.
