Terrell Lester, John Holcomb Honored by OSSAA

Terrell Lester and John Holcomb are being recognized recently by the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association for their longtime coverage of high school sports.

As the high school basketball state tournaments began in the Oklahoma City area, the governing body of high school athletics presented each with the OSSAA Media Excellence Award.

Lester, GTR Editor-at-Large, is in his 58th year as a professional journalist with a career that has included the Tulsa World and Greater Tulsa Reporter and has been honored locally and nationally for his work. He is widely known as a staunch and avid supporter of Oklahoma high school athletics.

He is a member of six halls of fame, most notably those of the Oklahoma Coaches Association, Oklahoma Basketball Coaches Association, Oklahoma Girls Basketball Coaches Association and Tulsa Public Schools.

Holcomb has been Sports Director for KOTV since 1995 and has held the position of sports director since September 1999. He can be found anchoring the weeknight sportscasts for News On 6 at 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. and co-hosting the “Oklahoma Ford Sports Blitz” statewide on Sunday nights. During high school football season, Holcomb also anchors the “Oklahoma Ford Friday Football Blitz” – Tulsa’s high school football show.

“John is one of the most affable, likeable, easy going, honest, hardworking human beings I’ve ever met,” said Chuck Maulden, News On 6 Director of Content. “We’re grateful he’s leading and directing our sports coverage. John is a huge part of our success in creating the most-watched newscast in Tulsa.”
