TPS Encourages Summer School
Tulsa Public Schools is encouraging parents and families to enroll their children in the district’s summer school program. Summer school classes will take place from June 25 – July 20 and run from 7:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m for elementary students and from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. for secondary students. High school students who are enrolled in summer school and need to recover credits can also participate in Edgenuity (E 20/20) online classes from 1:30 – 4:30 p.m. Parents can complete enrollment online at www.tulsaschools.org/summer or in person at the district’s Enrollment Center at 2819 S. New Haven Ave. Applications are due by May 11.
“We urge Tulsa parents and families to take advantage of this opportunity for students to sharpen their skills over the summer and be well-prepared for school in the fall,” said Superintendent Deborah A. Gist. “Summer school can help students of all ages to be successful – from our third graders who are mastering reading to our high school students who want to stay on track to graduate with their peers.”
Elementary students in summer school classes at Celia Clinton, Clinton West, Gilcrease, and Wright elementary schools are eligible to participate in Summer GO, an after-school program that includes classes in nutrition, , literacy and movement.
The summer school programs runs from June 25 – July 20 at the following times:
Elementary: 7:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. (breakfast at 7:30 a.m.; lunch at noon)
Secondary: 8 a.m-1 p.m. (breakfast at 8 a.m.; lunch at 12:30 p.m.)
Edgenuity (E/2020): 1:30-4:30 p.m.
Classes are held at the following locations:
Lewis and Clark Elementary School: grades 1-3
Celia Clinton, Clinton West, Gilcrease, Mitchell, and Wright elementary schools: grades 1-5
Cooper Elementary School: grades 4-8
Rogers High School: grades 6-12
Memorial High School: grades 9-12
For students entering grades 1-6, coursework will focus on meeting the state’s standards in mathematics and reading. Students entering grades 7-9 next fall may take credit recovery courses in math or language arts. Incoming 10th-12th grade students can recover credits in English I-IV, algebra I-II, biology, geometry and U.S. history.
Transportation services are available for summer school students with the exception of those enrolled in Summer GO or Edgenuity classes. Students will also receive breakfast and lunch.
Summer school enrollment will be open until May 11. Applications are available at www.tulsaschools.org/summer or at the Enrollment Center at 2819 S. New Haven Ave.
