TTCU Changes Name

TTCU is now officially TTCU The Credit Union.

The Credit Union, provider of financial services, has officially changed its name from Tulsa Teachers Credit Union to The Credit Union. They have used this trade name for several years, but it is legally official as granted by the Oklahoma State Banking Department.

The formerly-named Tulsa Teachers Credit Union was founded in 1934 in a cigar box in Room 326 at Tulsa Central High School. True to its moniker, it primarily served teachers and school faculty for years until the late 1990s when students and their families were able to become members. This shift in the service parameter led to massive growth and branching, which resulted in the credit union serving much more than teachers in Tulsa.

Since TTCU’s membership reached far beyond teachers and school administration, the name The Credit Union was used. Kristi Brooks, vice president of marketing, having seen the credit union through growth and branching, recognized the need to use a different trade name. “We have gone by The Credit Union for several years,” Brooks says. “It is a better representation of the members and the communities that we serve.”
