TU Ad Team Wins First Place in Texas

PROMOTION: The University of Tulsa’s National Student Advertising Competition () team won first place in the best promotion category and had two presenters recognized as “two of the best three in the competition” that was recently held in Austin, Texas, April 16-17. From left are students Kylie Martineau, Charlie Copa, Carly Boatwright, Carolyn Yoder, Ori Anderson, Brandon Baney.

The promotion was created for the national client, Mary Kay Cosmetics, with the project being “to rebrand the cosmetics line as relevant to the 18-25 female demographic.”

Seventeen students and two faculty (Bill Hinkle and Teresa Valero) traveled to Texas. The second and third best presenters were Oriana Anderson and Carolyn Yoder. In the history of the 10th District , there has never been another university placing two of their four presenters in the best presenter category in the same year.

Additionally (no other university was extended this offer), an judge who works as a creative director for a major, global advertising agency was so impressed with the TU plan and presentation team he gave his business card to all four presenters with a request to contact him immediately for job interviews at the agency’s San Diego location.

This first place promotion award follows last year’s effort when the TU national team placed second overall in the 10th District, American Advertising Federation, competition for their WalMart/Glidden Paint campaign.
