Tulsa 66ers Best Austin Toros 94-83


TULSA, Okla., Dec. 2, 2010 – The Tulsa 66ers recorded their second straight victory of the season Thursday night with a 94-83 win over the Austin Toros inside the Tulsa Convention Center. Five 66ers scored in double figures, led by Larry Owens and Jerome Dyson each with 18, and Cole Aldrich posted eight points, 10 rebounds and four blocks.

Tulsa’s Latavious Williams recorded a double-double in his first game of the season after sitting out the first four due to injury, posting 13 points and 12 rebounds. Tweety Carter and Elijah Millsap each chipped in 10 points.

“I thought our guys played with great effort and energy from the beginning,” Tulsa 66ers head coach Nate Tibbetts said. “We’ve been giving up 107 points a game defensively and one of our goals tonight was to try to hold them under 100 and our guys really stepped up and did that.”

The 66ers (3-2) recorded 19 assists on 34 made field goals. Tulsa guard Zabian Dowdell posted seven assists, a game high.

Austin’s (3-3) Marcus Cousin led the Toros with a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Also scoring in double figures was Vernon Hamilton with 18, Lewis Clinch with 14 and Thomas Gardner with 10.

The 66ers held the Toros to 35 percent (31-89) shooting from the field, forced 20 turnovers and posted nine steals.

Tulsa led 46-33 at halftime after holding the Toros to 13-44 (.295) shooting from the field. Austin, who trailed by as many as 19 in the third quarter, climbed back into the game at the conclusion of the third to cut the 66ers lead to five, 66-61.

Next up, the 66ers hit the road to take on the Texas Legends on Saturday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. Tulsa’s next home game is Sunday, Dec. 5 against the Rio Grande Valley Vipers at 4 p.m. inside the Tulsa Convention Center.
