Tulsa 66ers Sending Five to D-League All-Star Game

TULSA, Okla., Feb. 3, 2011— Guard Zabian Dowdell, forward Larry Owens, head coach Nate Tibbetts, assistant coach Dale Osbourne and athletic trainer Tony Katzenmeier have been chosen to represent the Tulsa 66ers in the fifth annual D-League All-Star Game Presented by SonoSite in Los Angeles on Saturday, Feb. 19, on Center Court at All-Star Jam Session presented by Adidas. The game will air live on TV at 4 p.m. CT.

Dowdell and Owens represented the D-League’s first and second GATORADE call-ups of the 2010-11 season. Dowdell was signed by the Phoenix Suns on Jan. 9, while Owens signed with the San Antonio Spurs on Jan. 16.

Dowdell suited up for Tulsa in 18 games (all starts) and averaged 14.5 points, 4.6 assists, 2.4 steals and 2.1 rebounds in 29.3 minutes.

Before his stint in San Antonio, Owens played in 23 games (all starts) for Tulsa, averaging 12.7 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.1 steals in 31.1 minutes.

“As an organization, we are extremely excited for Larry and Zabian,” Tibbetts said. “The leadership and professionalism they brought every day were rewarded with this opportunity. They will represent Tulsa in a great way.”

Tibbetts, Osbourne and Katzenmeier were selected to lead the West Team due to Tulsa’s League-leading 22-7 overall record.

“From a coaching standpoint, it is a reflection of what our guys have accomplished this season,” Tibbetts said. “Coach Osbourne, Tony and I being selected to coach in the All-Star game, it is not about us. It is about our guys coming to the gym with the goal of improving each and every day.”
