Tulsa Announces NCAA APR Results

Tulsa, Oklahoma –– The Academic Progress Rate () released today showed that 17 of The University of Tulsa’s 18 Division I sports programs are currently in compliance with the association’s guidelines.

Thirteen of Tulsa’s 18 sports recorded a multi-year score of above 950. The highest multi-year scores at Tulsa were earned by the softball (989), women’s tennis (982) and women’s rowing teams (982). Three teams – men’s golf, women’s golf and softball – also had perfect 1,000 scores for the 2008-09 single-year score.

The rate is based on data submitted for the 2005-06, 2006-07, 2007-08 and 2008-09 academic years.

The TU women’s basketball program fell below the 925 cutoff with a score of 914. The women’s basketball score is largely a result of the retention of student-athletes. Since the 2005-06 basketball season, nine student-athletes in the sport of women’s basketball transferred, and one turned professional. Tulsa will receive a penalty of the loss of one scholarship in the sport of women’s basketball for the 2010-11 season.

“Overall, we’re pleased with the academic performance of our athletic teams, and we are committed to working to improve the women’s basketball retention rate,” said Tulsa Athletics Director Bubba Cunningham.
