The Tulsa Area United Way celebrated the official end of its 2010 campaign Nov. 11 by projecting that it has raised $24,324,803, exceeding this year’s campaign goal of $24,067,551 by $257,252.

“So many thousands of people in the Tulsa area have once again shown their generosity and giving spirits,” says Dan Ellinor, 2010 Campaign Chair and Senior Executive Vice President of Bank of Oklahoma, N.A. “As our local economy continued to recover economically, we knew that our 61 partner agencies were still experiencing an increase in demand for the mission critical services they provide. Now with the incredibly hard work of this remarkable campaign team, we have not only met our original goal, we exceeded it which is fabulous support for our agencies.”

The 2010 Campaign kicked off with the Day of Caring on Sept. 10. The fundraising continued through September and October, and ended with TAUW’s Unite! 2010 celebration. Hundreds of people gathered at the Crowne Plaza Hotel downtown to hear the final results.

“Because of the amazing spirit of philanthropy and altruism in this community, we were able to blast through the finish line of the second highest goal set in the history of the Tulsa Area United Way,” says Mark Graham, President and of the Tulsa Area United Way. Graham and Ellinor emphasized that the number announced by the volunteer Campaign Cabinet members includes projections on campaigns that are still in progress. These campaigns will need to finish successfully in order to complete the campaign. People can still contribute to the Tulsa Area United Way by calling 918-583-7171 or online at www.tauw.org. Pledges will continue to be accepted through the end of the year.

In the last 86 years, the Tulsa Area United Way has invested more than $568 million in the Tulsa area community, delivering the three building blocks to a better life: education, financial stability and health/safety. The Tulsa Area United Way provides services to more than 726,000 individuals annually through its 61 partner agencies in Creek, Okmulgee, Osage, Rogers, Wagoner and Tulsa counties.
