Tulsa Company Ships Equipment to Egypt
READY FOR SHIPMENT: Harsco Industrial Air-X-Changers personnel are ready to ship the Model F gas compression cooler that includes the company’s 75,000th ASME-certified cooling section.
Harsco Industrial Air-X-Changers () shipped its 75,000th -certified cooler section in October this year, the Tulsa-based producer of natural gas compression cooling systems has announced.
The milestone section was one of three cooling sections included in a Model 132 F 2 engine-driven, multiple-fan cooler built for a gas compressor project in Mansoura, Egypt. The unit shipped on Oct. 22, 2012 from the headquarters plant at Tulsa’s Port of Catoosa and will be part of a multiple-unit compressor station helping to bring natural gas to Egyptian markets.
The section was the 75,000th section certified as meeting the internationally-recognized standards of the Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (). The is the largest and oldest standard. Now running to 12 volumes and reviewed every three years, the provides strict rules for the design, fabrication and inspection of boilers and pressure vessels. Founded in 1880 as the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, today includes more than 120,000 members in over 150 countries worldwide.
The cooling section is a core component of any air-cooled heat exchanger used for cooling natural gas in the compression process, comprising a precision-engineered matrix of tubes through which gas flows in the cooling process. Gas is cooled by air forced or drawn across the section by a fan.
“We received our first Certificate of Authorization in 1957, and our first -certified unit shipped in 1958,” says Vice President and General Manager Eric Clower. “As components of the -certified sections we’ve delivered since then – now 75,000 and counting – we’ve produced over 200 million feet of tubing and more than 150,000 box headers. And that production-output doesn’t include the thousands of cooler sections and other components we’ve manufactured that didn’t require certification.”
