Tulsa Drops, 69-59, Decision at Arizona State


TEMPE, Ariz. – Justin Hurtt, Scottie Haralson and Steven Idlet each scored in double figures, but it was not enough as The University of Tulsa basketball team dropped a, 69-59, decision at Arizona State Wednesday evening at Wells Fargo Arena.

The Golden Hurricane fell to 8-8 overall, while the Sun Devils improved to 9-7 on the year. TU plays host to Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.

Hurtt led TU with 17 points, while Idlet and Haralson each added 11 points. Bryson Pope grabbed 11 rebounds and added seven points.

Tulsa shot 39 percent from the floor and made 4-of-21 three pointers in the game. TU out-rebounded , 41-33, in the game. The Sun Devils made 42 percent of its field goals and made 10-of-24 three-pointers, led by Ty Aboot’s seven three-pointers. Abbot led all scorers with 25 points and Carrick Felix added 21 points.

The Sun Devils leveled out after making 55 percent of its shots in the first half, and hit on just 25 percent in the second period. However, TU was unable to find its scoring stroke to climb back into the game.

Tulsa went on an 11-2 run to close the deficit to, 52-40, with 12:27 remaining in the game. The Golden Hurricane got as close as nine points at, 59-50, with 4:59 left, before finally closing to, 67-59, with 48 second remaining.

Arizona State jumped out to a, 13-4, lead to start the game, and led all the way through the first half. Its largest lead was 22 points with 54 second remaining in the period, and the Sun Devils took a, 45-25, lead into halftime.

Tulsa made only 39 percent of its shots in the first half, while made 55 percent. TU had seven first half turnovers and trailed in rebounds, 17-13.
