Sam Houston Elementary School’s student council has launched a food drive to aid survivors of the Haitian earthquake.
Adults are asked to purchase cases of potable water as students donate their pennies. Each class is keeping track of the amount they raise by storing the change in jars.
The fundraiser runs from February 1-February 19. Businesses participating in the Partners in Education program have agreed to match the money generated by Houston students.
Tuesday marks three weeks since a devastating earthquake caused catastrophic casualties in Haiti. UN officials say food distribution remains problematic.
