Tulsa Golfers Begin Play at NCAA Regional on Thursday


BRYAN, Tex. – The Tulsa men’s golf team tees off at the Texas A&M Regional on Thursday at the Traditions Club. The regional event continues through Saturday. The top five teams will advance to the Championships.

Texas A&M is the No. 1 seed, followed by Texas Tech, Georgia, North Florida and rounding out the top-five seeds. In addition to Tulsa, other teams competing are Pepperdine, Auburn, North Carolina, Baylor, Rice, Wichita State, Georgetown and Jackson State,

Tulsa is led by senior Rob Laird, who earned second-team all-Conference honors this year. Laird has a team-leading 73.8 stroke average in 33 rounds and has placed among the top-20 in six tournaments. Sophomores Arie Fauzi and Stephen Carney have 74.0 stroke averages to rank second on the Hurricane roster.

Tulsa placed ninth at the regional last year. The Hurricane last advanced to the Championships in 2006-07.

There are six regional sites for the men’s tournament and a total of 81 teams. Thirteen teams will play in three regionals, while 14 teams will compete in the other three regional events. Five teams will advance from each regional to the finals.

The Championships round will take place June 1-6 at The Honors Course in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
