Tulsa Leads ORU Shootout after Two Rounds
Marita Engzelius and Kristina Merkle are in first and second place, respectively, and the Tulsa women’ golf team holds a 10-shot after the first two rounds at the Shootout at the par-72 Meadowbrook Golf Club.
The junior Engzelius finished the day as the tournament leader with an even-par 144 after shooting a 71 in the first round and a 73 in the second. The sophomore Merkle carded a 76 in round one and a 72 in round two for a two-round 148, to hold second place entering the final round Tuesday.
The Golden Hurricane shot a team-total of 602 in two rounds Monday, and holds a 10-shot lead over second-place Sam Houston State (612) entering the final round Tuesday. TU shot 307 as a team in the first round and a 295 in the second round. is in third place with a team-total 614, Oral Roberts followed with a 619, and rounded out the top five with a 621 Monday.
Junior Kamryn Ruffin shot a 79 in the first round and a 75 in the second, and sits tied for 15th with a 154 total. Junior Sarah Elliot shot an 81 and a 75 in the first and second rounds, respectively, for a total score of 156 Monday. Freshman Charlotte Brooks shot an 80 in the second round after falling victim in the first round to a disqualification after a misinterpretation of a local course rule.
