Tulsa Rolls with 3-0 Win at UTEP
EL , Texas – Tyler Henderson totaled kills and hit .636, as the 25th-ranked University of Tulsa volleyball team hit .444 as a team in a 3-0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-12) Conference road sweep at Sunday afternoon at Memorial Gym.
The Golden Hurricane (27-2, 17-0 C-) won its 26th straight match, extending the nation’s longest win streak and its C- consecutive wins record. dropped to 12-17 overall and 4-12 in league play.
Jordan Clampitt tallied a double-double with 40 assists and 10 digs, while Jessica Adams recorded 19 digs and three service aces for TU.
“As much as anything, the one thing we’re most excited about is the continued progress of our team,” Tulsa Head Coach Ed Allen said. “We have improved greatly over the course of the last two months, and we continue to improve. We have especially improved on defense and in ball control. I was really pleased with the defensive effort this weekend.”
Four players hit above .400 in the match, led by Henderson’s 17 kills in 22 swings with just three errors. Diana Silva had 10 kills and hit .417, Elizabeth Kale hit .429 with seven kills and Kelsey Hancock hit .412 with eight kills. Hannah Stout added five kills, and Shelbi Pitcher added eight digs.
“That is a tribute to the fact that we got very good ball control and played very good defense,” Allen said of four players hitting over .400 in the match.
The Hurricane committed just seven attack errors, totaling 47 kills in 90 attempts to hit .444. Tulsa also had 44 assists, five service aces, 46 digs and 3.0 blocks. hit .094 in the match (21-13-85) with 21 kills, 21 assists, one ace, 31 digs and 3.0 blocks.
The Golden Hurricane returns home for the final three matches of the regular season. TU battles Rice Friday at 2 p.m., and Houston Sunday at 1 p.m. The Hurricane closes the regular season Nov. 27, against second-place at 2 p.m.
