Tulsa Rowing Club Juniors Offers Basic Training for High School Athletes
The Tulsa Rowing Club Juniors are looking for motivated and committed high school aged athletes to join their competitive program.
The program is offering a basic training for beginners to the sport the week of February 14th – 18th, 2011. The basic training session will take place at the Tulsa Rowing Club on the west bank of the Arkansas just north of the 21st bridge.
Sessions will run Monday through Friday from 4:15pm to 6:15pm. The cost for the basic training is $100. Interested participants can register for the training online at www.tulsajuniorsrowing.org.
The Tulsa Rowing Club Juniors program has been around for over fifteen years providing opportunities for high school athletes. The club provides the chance to learn a demanding yet fun and enjoyable sport. The club is a competitive program regularly participating at the regional and national levels.
In addition, many of the rowers who have been involved in the program have progressed to the collegiate level earning scholarship money along the way.
“I know that there are many high school athletes around Tulsa and the local area that are unaware that the opportunity exists for them.” said Juniors Head Coach Neil Bergenroth. “I think of those athletes that sit on the bench and don’t get a significant amount of playing time who could be getting more out of their high school athletic experience and we can offer that – playing time is not an issue for our athletes!”
Participants in the basic training will learn rowing technique, boat handling and safety aspects to the sport in preparation for competitive events this spring.
The club would like to offer any student athlete the chance to come down and view a practice and develop a passion for a rapidly growing sport in Tulsa.
Basic Training will culminate with an indoor rowing race with City Champions crowned in school and individual categories.
