On Saturday and Sunday May 8/9 the Tulsa Rowing Club Juniors competed at the Central District Youth Rowing Regatta. The team had a successful outing and earned two invitations to the owing Youth National Championship Regatta. On Saturday, the girls varsity four composed of Molly Schale (Holland Hall), Courtaney Miller (Jenks), Abby Jones (), Molly McSweeny () and Anne Pennington (Cascia Hall) -rowed to the silver medal in a nail biting final against Mile High Rowing and Texas Rivals Highland Park. The girls finished second place just 0.02 second ahead of third place crew Highland Park. This silver medal position earned the crew an invitation to the national championship regatta in Cincinatti, OH next month.
“I am very proud of these young ladies and pleased to see them row so well and fight for this silver medal in this increasingly competitive region”, said Head Coach Neil Bergenroth. “Coach James Simmons has prepared these young ladies very well and the results speak for themselves.”
On day two of the regatta, the girls in the four rowed with more of their teammates in the Girls Varsity Eight placing second. Again, this crew earned a invitation to the owing Youth Nationals by placing in the top two crews in the region. The girls varsity eight was composed of Anne Pennington (Cascia Hall), Molly Schale (Holland Hall), Anna Royce (Holland Hall), Andrea Joyce (Holland Hall), Courtaney Miller (Jenks), Abby Jones (), Molly McSweeny (), Madison Jones (), Lauren Griffith ()
Other notable results from the student athletes at the club include fourth place finishes from Baruch Price (Augustine) and Blake Chesnut (Cascia Hall) in the boys novice double, fourth place in the boys novice quad Blake Chesnut (Cascia Hall), Chris Atik (Cascia Hall), Baruch Price (Augustine), John Carstens (Holland Hall) and fourth places in the boys eight. The boys eight was composed of Mason Fuller (Cascia Hall), Eric Klammer (Edison), Andrew Smith (Edison), Nathan Klammer (Edison), Brock Turner (), John Carmichael (Bixby), Ryan Carroll (Broken Arrow), Baruch Price (Augustine), Seth Bourdeau (Holland Hall).
The Tulsa Rowing Club Juniors will be holding summer camps in June for high school aged athletes who have no rowing experience and are looking for a challenge on a growing competitive team.
