Tulsa’s Charles Clay to Play in Under Armour Senior Bowl
Mobile, Alabama –– University of Tulsa senior Charles Clay has been invited to play in the Under Armour Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama, it was announced today.
The Under Armour Senior Bowl will be played at Ladd-Peebles Stadium and aired on the Network at 3:00 pm (CT) on Saturday, Jan. 29th. Clay has played twice before at Ladd-Peebles Stadium as the Golden Hurricane had back-to-back wins in the Bowl following the 2007 and 2008 seasons. Tulsa defeated Bowling Green in the first, 63-7, and defeated No. 22 Ball State, 45-13, a year later.
Clay, a 6’3”, 235-pund H-back, was a four-year starter and helped lead the Golden Hurricane compile a 36-17 record, two Conference West Division titles and wins in two Bowls as well as the 2010 Sheraton Hawai’i Bowl.
As a senior, Clay totaled 526 receiving yards and a team-high seven touchdowns on 43 receptions, while rushing for 226 yards for a 6.6 average this season. Clay earned honorable mention all-Conference accolades in his senior season.
He opened the season with eight receptions for 86 yards and one TD at East Carolina, while closing out the campaign with 62 rushing yards on four carries and two receptions for 38 yards in a 62-35 victory over 24th-ranked Hawai’i in the Sheraton Hawai’i Bowl.
In his career, Clay totaled 2,544 receiving yards and 911 rushing yards in 53 games. He completed his career ranked sixth on the school’s career receiving chart and totaled 38 career touchdowns to rank second on Tulsa’s all-time TD list –– including 28 receiving and 10 rushing. Clay had five 100+ yard receiving games and nine multiple TD games in his career (one in 2007, 4 in 2008, 3 in 2009 and one in 2010).
The last Tulsa player to play in the Senior Bowl was tight end Garrett Mills following the 2005 season. Clay is the 26th Golden Hurricane player in school history to play in the Senior Bowl.
