Tulsa’s Kamryn Ruffin Wins Title at the Claud Jacobs Intercollegiate
Victoria, Texas –– University of Tulsa junior Kamryn Ruffin, from Pryor, Okla., tied for individual medalist honors at the Claud Jacobs Intercollegiate on Monday, as the Hurricane team opened the season with a third-place performance. Tulsa finished the 54-hole event with a score of 923 at the par-72 Victoria Country Club course.
Ruffin held on for a nine-over par 225 total in three rounds, while junior teammate Marita Engzelius finished in third place at 227 with her best round of the tournament. Ruffin finished with a round of 75 on Monday, while Engzelius’ final 18-hole total was two-over par 74.
Ruffin tied with Texas State’s Krista Puisite for individual honors. Puisite used a two-over par 74 today to pull even with Ruffin.
As a team, the Hurricane shot the best round of the day in the 17-team field with a final round 300. Host Texas State claimed the team title with a 912 total, followed by Kansas with a 920 total. Tulsa and North Texas tied for third place with 923 totals, far out-distancing fifth-place Sam Houston’s 939 score.
Freshman Charlotte Brooks turned in her best round of the day with a 74 to finish in 18th place with a 232 total. A pair of Hurricane juniors, Kristina Merkle and Sarah Elliot, placed 38th and 47th, respectively. Merkle had a final 18-hole total of 76 for a 240 total, while Elliot scored a 79 for a 244 total.
Tulsa is back in action next at the Spring Invitational, March 7-8, at the Boulder Creek Country Club in Boulder Creek, Nevada.
