Tulsa Shock Select Zahui B Second Overall

With the second overall pick in the 2015 Draft, the Tulsa Shock selected Amanda Zahui B (-ee ).

The 6’5” Center out of Minnesota became eligible for the draft by virtue of turning 22 this calendar year and deciding to forego her remaining collegiate eligibility. In just two active seasons with the Golden Gophers, the Sweden native set a team record for career blocks (240). This season, Zahui B. became the first player in the university’s history to be named to the AP All-America First Team after ranking fourth in Division I in both rebounds (12.9) and blocks (4.09) per game. Zahui B averaged 16.9 points per game and 12.2 rebounds per game in her two seasons at Minnesota.

“Zahui B is a player who has great work ethic, is coachable, and has a tremendous upside,” Shock President Steve Swetoha said. “She certainly will enhance our overall team defense with her ability and length to block shots and defend.

Zahui B becomes the third player taken by the Shock in team history with the Draft’s second-overall-pick since moving the franchise to Tulsa from Detroit in 2010. She joins Liz Cambage, who was taken by the Shock in the same position in the 2011 draft, and current Shock standout Odyssey Sims, taken by the Shock as the league’s second overall pick in last season’s draft (2014).

Shock Head Coach Fred Williams added, “She is a passionate player who has an excellent pro career ahead of her. Her ability to work inside and her outside perimeter game sets up very well for our team and league.”

The Shock’s season opener is June 6 vs. the Chicago Sky at 7 p.m. in the Center. Tickets are on sale now at tulsashock.net or by calling 918-949-9700.
