Tulsa Softball Takes Two Games at Embassy Suites Invitational


TULSA, Okla. – Lauren Lindsay and Samantha Cobb combined to drive in seven of Tulsa’s 10 runs on the day, and Jackie Lawrence and Kalynn Schrock pitched shutouts as The University of Tulsa softball team picked up two wins Friday at the Tulsa Embassy Suites Invitational.

The Golden Hurricane (5-7) defeated South Dakota State, 3-0, and , 7-0, on Friday.

The Golden Hurricane returns to action Saturday at 1 p.m. against Texas State. Lindsay went 3-for-6 in the two games with four , while Cobb was 4-for-8 with a home run and three . Lawrence (1-3) shut down South Dakota State, and Schrock (3-2) did not give any ground to . The pitchers combined to allow just seven hits and five walks, while striking out 20 opposing batters.

“That’s the formula that we like to see, where pitchers go out and throw up a bunch of zeroes on the board, and we get some timely hitting at times and keep putting pressure on them,” Tulsa head coach John Bargfeldt said. “We had some players come through in some good-hitting situations. Our pitchers were trying so hard to get back to where we felt like we were last year, and this is a good start. It’s something to build on. We hope to see that when we come out tomorrow, we’ll have the same type of effort from our pitchers. That’s where it starts.”

Senior Lauren Lindsay went 3-for-4 with two and freshman Samantha Cobb and junior Mickey LaValley each picked up a pair of hits to lead the Golden Hurricane to a 3-0 win over South Dakota State (3-8). Senior Jackie Lawrence (1-3) pitched a complete-game shutout to earn her first win of the season.

Lawrence allowed just four hits and two walks while striking out 11 batters in the game. Tulsa scored three runs on seven hits, and had four hits and two errors.

Freshmen Samantha Cobb, Caitlin Everett and Cassidy Bowen each got two hits and Lauren Lindsay got a hit and two to lead the Golden Hurricane to a 7-0 win over (2-8). One of Cobb’s hits was a three-run homer. Freshman Kalynn Schrock (3-2) pitched a three-hit shutout to earn the win. She walked just three batters and struck out nine.

Tulsa scored seven runs on nine hits, while earned three hits and committed one error.
