Tulsa Volleyball Completes Weekend Sweep of UAB


TULSA, Okla. – Tyler Henderson had 20 kills and Jessica Adams tallied 20 digs to lead The University of Tulsa volleyball team to a weekend series sweep of , winning 3-0 (27-25, 25-21, 25-20), Sunday afternoon at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.

Senior Hannah Stout recorded her 1,000-career kill in the match, becoming just the fifth player in TU history to hit the milestone. With the win the Golden Hurricane improved to 16-2 overall and 7-0 in C- play, winning its 15th straight match. fell to 4-14 overall, and 1-5 in league play.

Jordan Clampitt recorded 37 assists, and Stout and Kellie Culbertson finished with six kills apiece, and Culbertson added 14 digs. Stout also added four blocks, Henderson had three blocks, and Elizabeth Kale blocked a pair of attacks. Shelbi Pitcher contributed eight digs, as did Diana Silva.

Tulsa hit .211 for the match (43-17-123) with 43 kills, 40 assists, three service aces, 62 digs and 7.0 blocks. For the sixth time in seven matches, TU held its opponent under .200 hitting. hit .132 as a team (38-21-129) with 38 kills, 35 assists, two aces, 53 digs and 5.0 blocks.

The Golden Hurricane returns to action Wednesday, as it plays host to Oral Roberts at 7 p.m. at the Reynolds Center.

Wednesday’s is TU’s Dig for the Cure® match. October 13 is a TU campus-wide day, in which TU students, faculty and staff are encouraged to wear pink in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The day will culminate with the volleyball match at 7 p.m. All fans in attaendance are encouraged to wear pink, in an effort to come together to fight breast cancer. Pledge donations are being collected for every dig recorded, and sum donations will be accepted at the match. One-hundred percent of the proceeds raised at the match will benefit the Susan G. Komen for the Cure® Tulsa affiliate.
