Tulsan Named to Soccer All-American First Team


Tulsa forward Cristian Mata was tabbed to the Soccer America All-Freshman first team, as announced by the same publication. Mata is TU’s first first-team selection, while Austin Neil was a second-team honoree in 2008.

Mata had a team-best 14 goals, including five game-winners, and six assists for 34 points as true freshman. He ranked ninth in points per game (1.7), 12th in total points, 13th in goals per game (0.7) and total goals, and 83rd in total assists among the nation’s best.

Mata was the Conference Freshman of the Year, was an All-C- first team and C- All-Freshman team selection, was a two-time C- Offensive Player of the Week honoree, was tabbed to the College Soccer News Team of the Week once, was selected to the Top Drawer Soccer Top-100 Freshman List and Freshman Team of the Season, was a College Sports Madness Freshman of the Year and All-C- First Team honoree, and was named to the Midwest All-Region first team.
