The United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) announced the winners of the 2008 Regional Hispanic Leadership and Business Excellence Awards, during the 29th Annual National Convention and Business Expo held recently at the Sacramento Convention Center in California.

The Greater Tulsa Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (GTHCC) received the Regional Small Hispanic Chamber of the Year, Region III award.

“As the Hispanic business community continues to increase and expand its contributions to both the U.S. and world economy, the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is proud to honor those at the forefront of this unprecedented growth,” says David C. Lizárraga, USHCC chairman. “On behalf of the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, our Board of Directors, and the 2.5 million Hispanic businesses we represent nationwide, I congratulate and applaud this year’s regional award winners and national finalists for their accomplishments and exemplary leadership. I look forward to the continued growth and prosperity of our Hispanic business community, with these individuals leading as strong examples.”

The USHCC presents these prestigious awards each year to extraordinary and visionary Hispanic chambers, businessmen and women, as well as corporate and government advocates, who have contributed to and demonstrated exemplary excellence and leadership in business.

The awards pay tribute to the unparalleled achievements and innovations that have significantly empowered the U.S. Hispanic community, the nation’s largest and fastest growing minority group.

The Greater Tulsa Hispanic Chamber of Commerce was selected from several dozen nominations submitted by numerous local and statewide Hispanic chambers of commerce from across the country. The selection panel included a wide variety of professionals with expertise in entrepreneurship and chamber management, as well as representatives from Fortune 500 companies and national non-profit organizations.

“It is great to be recognized by the USHCC and to be among some of the best Hispanic organizations in the nation,” says Francisco Treviño, GTHCC executive director. “Now more than ever we are working together with other Hispanic Chambers from our region, in order to provide better services and programs to help the Hispanic entrepreneurs.”

“Our involvement in the national Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is due in great part to our chair, María Carlota Palacios; she has been a key player in building this relationship. Our board of director’s visionary leadership and support has also been essential to our national exposure,” Treviño added.

GTHCC was recognized at the Networking Procurement Breakfast on Sept. 25 at the Sacramento Convention Center.
