August 30 was a great day for all of us in Tulsa County and throughout the region as the magnificent BOK Center was officially opened with a ribbon cutting before thousands of future fans of events that the building will host.

Our Tulsa Talons look forward to the 2009 season in the BOK Center. The first game will be played in the spring, so keep reading for information on the big opening game.

The BOK opening was a great event with luminaries such as Garth Brooks, the Hansons, architect Cesar Pelli and many civic and business leaders attending. The BOK Center is certainly breathing new life into downtown Tulsa!

Bill Connors Sports Dinner
W. K. Warren, Jr. will be honored by the Tulsa Sports Commission at the Bill Connors Sports Dinner as the 2008 Sportsman of the Year. This year’s dinner event will be held in the BOK Center’s Grand Lobby. The event began in 2001 and is named for the late Tulsa World Sports Editor, Bill Connors. As past Tulsa Sports Commission chairman, I know that Mr. Connors was a superb sports journalist and respected in all sports circles.

Mr. Warren’s interests in Tulsa include many sports but in recent years horse racing has become his passion. Tulsa is a better place because of the contributions of time and talent Mr. Warren has applied to various sports, programs and facilities in the Tulsa community. For more information and to register for this great event, please visit www.tulsasports.org or call (918) 560-0246.

TCC Vision Dinner
We are looking forward to the Tulsa Community College Vision in Education Leadership Award Dinner on Sept. 25 at the Renaissance Tulsa Hotel, where OU President David Boren will be honored.

For more information, please contact the Tulsa Community College Foundation at (918) 595-7846.

Football Country
Congratulations to all of our area college football teams for having such impressive seasons during the early going. It looks as though OU is making another run at a national championship, OSU is impressive in their Boone Pickens Stadium, and TU has done a brilliant job in making their stadium fit in with the beautiful campus. Have some fun and support your teams, whether high school, college or whatever.
