Officials at the Tulsa Zoo have announced that the Tulsa Zoo is the winner of the “Zoo Tycoon 2” America’s Favorite Zoo contest. It now bears the title of America’s Favorite Zoo and received a $25,000 grant, which zoo officials plan to utilize by improving the alligator exhibit located in the Southern Lowlands building. Currently, one of the alligators has to be moved to an off-display holding area in order to get unfiltered sunshine and fresh air. “The addition of a new enclosure will give the alligators access to an outside area without moving them off-display and will allow public viewing in the area,” said Stephen Walker, Tulsa Zoo Interim Zoo Director.
Zoo staff implemented an aggressive campaign which included flyers, stickers, hanging posters, ads, live media appearances and a voting rally to get the word out and get the votes needed to win.
“We were very impressed by the Tulsa Zoo’s campaign efforts and the support from their community,” commented Shane Kim, general manager of Microsoft Game Studios, and one of the judges in the first round of competition. “We could tell the people in the Tulsa area love their zoo.”
