TU’s Orford Signs Marcinkowska for Tennis

The University of Tulsa Head Women’s Tennis Coach Dean Orford announced today the signing of Marta Marcinkowska to a national-letter-of-intent.

Marcinkowska, who will join the women’s tennis team in the fall of 2006, garnered a silver medal at the Youth Olympic Games in Sweden in 2000, and a sliver medal in both the 2003 Summer Junior Doubles Championships and 2003 Winter Junior Doubles Championships in Poland.

She recorded a first-place finish in the 2004 Szczecin Junior National Tournament, a second-place mark in the 2004 Opalenica Junior National Tournament and a third-place finish in the 2004 Warsaw Junior National Tournament in singles play. In doubles action, Marcinkowska netted two Junior National Tournament titles and one runner up finish in 2004. She had a career-high No. 17 national singles ranking and a No. 10 national doubles ranking in Juniors competition, and a career-high No. 28 singles ranking and a No. 14 doubles ranking in Seniors competition.

“Marta is an explosive player with a huge serve,” Orford said. “We expect her to come in and contribute in both the singles and doubles lineups. She has a great deal of junior experience and will be a great asset to the women’s team.”
