The University of Tulsa women’s basketball team earned a No. 25 preseason ranking by CBS Sportsline.com in the 2006-07 College Basketball Preview.

“It is an honor to be among the top-25 teams in the nation,” Head Coach Charlene Thomas-Swinson said.

The Golden Hurricane returns three seniors, two juniors and one sophomore, and features six newcomers to the squad. Leading the way for Tulsa will be All-America candidate Jillian Robbins. Robbins received numerous accolades during her junior campaign, including being selected as a 2006 Associated Press and Kodak/WBCA honorable mention All-American, named to the Kodak/WBCA All-Region VI team and was an All-America finalist by the same publication. She was selected as the 2006 Conference USA Female Athlete of the Year, received C-USA Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year and all-conference first team honors, and was named the Conference USA Tournament MVP.

Robbins will be joined by fellow returning letterwinners Chivis Merriweather, Tandem Mays, Dana Idlet and Jamie Dreiling, as well as freshmen Teka Brooks, Micaela Cully, Destanie Gardner, Valerie Siemens and Larrissa Williams, and junior-transfer Chanel Johnson. Johnson will sit out the 2006-07 season per NCAA transfer rules.

TU will begin the 2006-07 regular season at home on Saturday, November 11th against Southeast Missouri State. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
