Union Schools Foundation to Hold ‘A Night of FOCUS’ for Education

Event is April 6 at River Spirit

Each spring, the Union Schools Education Foundation (USEF) concentrates on raising much-needed funds for classroom grants and learning opportunities at its annual A Night of FOCUS (Funding Our Children at Union Schools). This year’s fundraising dinner and auction event will be held on April 6th at River Spirit Casino, 8330 Riverside Parkway. The program begins at 7 p.m.
This year’s presenting sponsor will be Metro Appliances & More. All proceeds from the event benefit the students, teachers and programs of Union Public Schools and will support the four main areas as specified in the district’s five-year strategic plan, including: STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics); community schools; early childhood education; and college and career readiness.
“Last year, we had the support of 42 corporate sponsors and about 450 people attended the event,” explained Shea Ludwig, USEF director. “That incredible support and the support we receive throughout the year enabled us to award nearly $150,000 in classroom grants focusing on STEM initiatives, technology, the arts and literacy, as well as programs like the Pre-K Transition Camp, Career Connect, Leadership and so much more. We were also able to provide ACT and SAT fee assistance and cap and gowns for graduation when needed.”
Ludwig added, “By participating in A Night of FOCUS, participants and donors will help to ensure Union continues to be a leader in providing a high-quality education.”
Through both a silent auction as well as an entertaining live auction, there will be something for everyone. “Sports memorabilia, dining and entertainment experiences and vacation get-a-ways are just a few of the items that will be included at the event,” said Ludwig.
As part of this year’s “Fund the Need” emphasis, funding will focus on the theme “Engagement” and will include funding for Special Olympics, BizTown, Ubotics and the Pre-K Transition Camp. “These areas include all ages of students and encompass every level. That is the driving force behind our fundraising efforts,” added Ludwig.
Besides a “wine pull,” other fun activities will include a vacation raffle, a fabulous silent auction and an exciting live auction.
Tickets to A Night of FOCUS are $100 each and may be purchased at unionfoundation.org/events. For additional information, call 918-357-6014 or email ludwig.shea@unionps.org.
