Union’s Alex Rowin Signs with ORU
Oral Roberts University track and field head coach Joe Dial has announced the addition of Union High School standout Alex Rowin to the 2006-2007 recruiting class.
Rowin, son of Jim and Susan Rowin of Tulsa, signed a national Letter of Intent and will join the Golden Eagles as a freshman next fall. Rowin was the conference champion in the mile run as well as state-runner up in the one and two mile runs in 2005. He was named as an All-State Cross Country selection in 2004 and 2005. Rowin runs a personal best 4:21 in the mile, a 9:38 two mile, 15:44 in the 5,000 km run, and 1:56 in the 800 meter dash. He chose ORU over Oklahoma, Tulsa, Kansas State and Wichita State.
Oral Roberts, which swept the Mid-Continent Conference Indoor Track and Field crowns last year, has been selected as the favorite to win the men’s and titles in 2003 as well.
Oral Roberts received only two of six first-place votes in the men’s preseason poll, but was not ranked lower than third on any coach’s ballot. The Golden Eagles used a dominating effort in the sprint events last season to take home a decisive win over second place Southern Utah (214-129) for its fourth Mid-Con Indoor title in five years. Oral Roberts’ top returnees should be Franz Petzold (60 meter hurdles), Shaun Schaefer (pole vault) and Wayne Scott (400 meter dash), who all earned first-team all-conference accolades last season with first-place finishes.
