Volunteers Needed For Tulsa Parks Committees

TULSA, Okla. – Volunteers are needed to serve on committees now being created as a result of the completion of the Tulsa Parks Master Plan. The Plan was discussed at a public forum Tuesday, March 30 at the Central Center at Centennial Park.

Committees needing members include finance, marketing, facilities, trails and programs.

“Those interested can apply to be on these committees at the Tulsa Parks website, www.tulsaparks.org,” said Lucy Dolman, Parks and Recreation Dept. Director. “We’ll be selecting the committee from all applicants after April 15. Applicants must be 21 or older, a resident of the Tulsa region, and willing to be actively involved and attend regular monthly meetings.”

According to Dolman, committees will be tasked with reviewing the recommendations of the 2010 Tulsa Parks Master Plan, prioritizing the recommendations and creating action plans to turn them into reality.

The complete plan, as well as information about Tulsa Park facilities, current programming and funded construction projects now under way can be found at the Tulsa Parks website, www.tulsaparks.org. The plan document includes background research on our Park system, Tulsa region demographics, data summaries from surveys completed in 2009 by Tulsans and national parks and recreation trends.

The Master Plan Study committee was chaired by Margie Warren and Jamie Zink. Members included the chair of the Park and Recreation Board as well as City staff and others. This group worked closely with the planning consultants throughout the Plan process. The Plan was created by GreenPlay, , and funded by private donations.
