Wallk-off Hit Leads Golden Eagles Past UCA, 4-3


TULSA–Brett Sowers laced a run-scoring double in the top of the 10th inning as Oral Roberts defeated Central Arkansas 4-3, Tuesday at J.L. Johnson Stadium.

P.J. Sequeira was hit by a pitch to start the tenth and Sowers knocked a 1-0 pitch past a diving Greg Noble in left field, allowing Sequeira to score all the way from first with the winning run.

UCA (3-4) opened the scoring in the top of the third when Ethan Harris knocked in Andy Fox with a single for a 1-0 lead.

ORU (1-3) responded in the bottom half of the inning whenChris Elder knocked in a pair of runs with a single as the Golden Eagles took a 2-1 lead.

The Bears tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the fourth on an RBI single by Zack Dickson.

The Golden Eagles came back to take a 3-2 lead in the top of the seventh on an RBI double by Sequeira, but UCA again rallied to tie the score in the top of the eighth.

ORU starting pitcher Mark Guest allowed a single and a double to start the eighth before giving way to reliever Drew Bowen, who surrendered an RBI groundout before retiring the final two batters and keeping the game tied at 3-3.!

Guest pitched seven-plus innings for the Golden Eagles, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits while striking out six and walking two. Bowen pitched two innings of shutout relief before giving way to Bryce Smolen (1-0) who earned the win after retiring all three batters in the top of the tenth.

Tyler Garewal led ORU’s 9-hit attack with a 3-for-5 effort, scoring two runs stealing a base. Sequeira finished with two hits and Elder drove in a pair.

Harris led UCA at the plate, going 2-for-5. Evan Cox (0-2) took the loss for the Bears.
