Washington Irving Festival Offers Family Fun

The Washington Irving Festival, held Oct. 26 at Bixby’s Washington Irving Park, is an annual free fall event open to the community.
It is a day to enjoy food trucks, inflatables and costume contests.
As a special treat, young ones were able to participate in Trunk or Treat during the event, which is hosted by the Bixby Optimist Club.
Washington Irving Park is a 32.5-acre wooded park located just north of the Arkansas River Bridge on Memorial Drive in Bixby.
Among the many attractions in the park, visitors will find:
• Laci Dawn Hill Butterfly Garden
• Memorial to the children of the Murrah Building bombing
• Memorial to World Trade Center terrorist act
• Picnic tables
• An excellent walking trail
Other developments include an amphitheater and a restroom facility with covered patio. The BBQ ‘n Music Festival is also held each year at the park, providing a shaded, pleasant atmosphere for festival attendees. This is also the location for the free Yoga in the Park program.
