Westbrook Set To Begin 20th Season At The Helm Of Tulsa Men’s Tennis
TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa men’s tennis team will open the spring season with four home matches in a stretch of five days. TU will kick off the indoor season with two matches inside Case Tennis Center Jan. 12. The first will be at 2 p.m. against Arkansas-Pine Bluff and the second will be at 7 p.m. against Oral Roberts University. TU will then play the next day at 6 p.m. against California and will take on Texas at noon Jan. 16.
Coach Vince Westbrook is entering his 20th season at the helm of the men’s tennis program. He owns a 284-213 overall mark and a 159-69 record at home during his tenure, which includes a 14-1 record over the Golden Eagles. Tulsa is on a 14-match win streak over .
Westbrook is also 1-0 all-time against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 2-2 against Cal and 0-10 against the Longhorns.
Tulsa’s lineup features three players ranked in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association national rankings, headlined by sophomore Marcelo Arevalo at No. 44. Junior Ashley Watling is No. 89 and sophomore Clifford Marsland is ranked No. 96.
The doubles tandem of Watling and Marsland are ranked No. 22.
