Winners Announced in 15th Annual F&CS Poster Contest

GRAND PRIZE: John Powell of Heidie Contreras School of Art won the grand prize in Family and Children’s Services’ 15th Annual Poster Contest. His artwork, which celebrates Oklahoma families, was featured on the December 2007 cover of “TulsaKids??? magazine. Other winners will be featured in the magazine through March.

Winners were recently announced in Family and Children’s Service’s 15th annual poster contest. The contest was open to area youth in kindergarten through 12th grade. The theme for this year’s contest was “Celebrate Oklahoma Families” in commemoration of the Oklahoma Centennial.

Winners received cash prizes and were recognized at a reception in their honor. Ken Busby, executive director of the Arts and Humanities Council of Tulsa, served as emcee and discussed the importance of family and the joy children’s art brings to the community.

The winning entries will be permanently displayed in F&CS offices throughout Tulsa and surrounding communities. The grand prize poster was featured on the cover of the December 2007 issue of “TulsaKids” magazine. Other winners will be included in the publication through March 2008.

The grand prize was awarded to John Powell of Heidie Contreras School of Art.

Kindergarten through first grade winners include: first place, Patty Richardson, Bell Elementary; second place, Brita Faerber, University School; third place, Anthony Gayten, Jackson Elementary; and honorable mentions, John-Martin William, University School; Kenneth Scott, Bell Elementary; Elizabeth Luttrel, Lake Country Christian School; Kaitlyn Bennett, Bell Elementary; Emily Lapidus, Mizel Jewish Community Day School; Lauren Siegfried, University School; Kaysha Miller, Bell Elementary; and Ryan Thomason, University School.

Second through third grade winners include: first place, Avery Childress, Disney Elementary; second place, Callie Mueller, Heidi Contreras School of Art; third place, Celeste Rodriguez, Bell Elementary; and honorable mentions, Nathan Coupe, Mizel Jewish Community Day School; Savannah DeWitt, Lake Country Christian School; Bonnie Tom, University School; and Jordan Flippo, University School.

Fourth through fifth grade winners include: first place, Micah Cash, University School; second place, OxziAna Herbert, Eliot Elementary; third place, Rosi Jimenez, Lindbergh Elementary; and honorable mentions, Hailey Garrison, Lake Country Christian School; Leslie Hammond, Bell Elementary; Rachael Brodsky, Mizel Jewish Community Day School; and Sean Elizabeth Tyler, Heidi Contreras School of Art.

Sixth through eighth grade winners include: first place, Emma Jane Pendleton, Orchard Hill Academy; second place, Jessica Shenoi, School of St. Mary; third place, Kierstin Wise, Byrd Middle School; and honorable mentions, Justine Mueller, Heidi Contreras School of Art; Justice Wilson, Heidi Contreras School of Art; Marina Pendleton, Orchard Hill Academy; Athira Raj, Byrd Middle School; and Bliss McDaniel, Byrd Middle School.

Ninth through 12th grade winners include: first place, Dalton Janeway, Tulsa Technology Center-Sand Springs; second place, Sherita Flowers, TTC – Sand Springs; third place, Jovan Bennett, TTC – Sand Springs; and honorable mentions, Taylor Bartman, TTC – Sand Springs; Gladys Alvarado, Central High School; Samantha Ward, TTC – Sand Springs; Emily Goodwin, Memorial High School; Scott Hannaford, Project 12 Alternative School; Brittany Pickerill, TTC – Sand Springs; Elaine Seay, Memorial High School; and Jordan Arington, Central High School.
