Women Honored
The City of Tulsa Mayor’s Commission on the Status of Women has selected six Tulsa-area women to receive the prestigious Pinnacle Award.
The award, presented annually in March, which is Women’s History Month, recognizes extraordinary commitment by women to enact positive change affecting women and children through their profession, individual leadership, or community service. Awards are presented in the areas of health, education, arts/humanities, community service and corporate/business.
The Pinnacle Spirit Award is presented in special recognition of a woman who has overcome great personal or professional hardship to affect change.
Recipients of the Pinnacle Awards and their respective categories are: Health- Kayse Shrum, D.O., Provost and Dean, Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences; Education-Cathy Burden, Ph.D., Superintendent, Union Public Schools; Arts/Humanities-Alicia Latimer, Coordinator African-American Resource Center, Tulsa City-County Library; Community Service-Mary Wheeler Brown, Board Member, Oklahoma United Methodist Circle of Care; and Corporate/Business-Leah Wietholter, Owner/Certified Fraud Examiner, Workman Forensics. The winner of the Pinnacle Spirit Award is Flo Ella Pots, Ed.D., Provost, Tulsa Community College Metro Campus.
